9th grade health project

03/21/2021

This year, the freshmans have been studying urbanization in Health class. Their unit question is: How does urbanization impact human health and what steps can be taken to counteract these negative concerns? As part of their project, they created websites, social media accounts, and donation platforms, in ways that they're able to spread awareness and help out. Take a look at these awesome projects down below!

VULNERABILITY TO DISEASE (Morakod and Minseo)

PCPS: Vulnerable age groups in an urbanized area like Phnom Penh need to be supplied with affordable health resources to keep safe from being exposed to covid.

Our project is about the vulnerability to diseases in urbanization. The advancement of society has allowed us to urbanize areas for our convenience. The population is larger and the technology is more advanced in urbanization. However, there are many downsides to living in an urban area. One of these problems is being vulnerable to diseases that affect every citizen. This group is focusing on the COVID-19 virus that is keeping us in a pandemic. They have found that COVID-19 mainly affects age groups such as the young and the elderly. This is because their immune system is not as strong as the age group in between. Their idea is to donate masks, soap, and sanitizers to a nearby school that provides for kids in poverty. We believe that by doing this, we can protect the youth of this country to be safe from this pandemic.

CANCER (Anna Hyde, Soyashin, Yera)

PCPS: The middle and upper-class families living in Phnom Penh need to be aware that they are at risk for lung cancer.

Lung Cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Lung cancer is cancer that starts in the lungs. When a person has lung cancer, they have abnormal cells that cluster together to form a tumor. One of the common ways that lung cancer is caused is by smoking. A chemical substance called Carcinogen in cigarettes is what causes cancer. Middle, lower, and upper-class families have enough money to buy cigarettes. Instead of using their money to buy cigarettes, we can use the money to help people who have lung cancer and teach about it. There are many factors in getting lung cancer such as exposure to radon, secondhand smoke, air pollution, or other factors. Workplace exposures to asbestos, diesel exhaust, or certain other chemicals can also cause lung cancer. To prevent people from getting lung cancer, to not smoke, exercise often, and keeping a healthy diet. Getting regular scans to check if you have cancer, and also find out more about our family lineage. If your family has any history of cancer it's important to check with our doctor.

CHILDREN IN POVERTY (Shopor, Jiwon, Harry, Dohyun, Nimol)

PCPS: Young Cambodians in poverty who lack education need an accessible, efficient, and sustainable way to grasp different skill sets to impact their community.

The Young Cambodians Poverty project, created by a group of devoted teenagers reaching out to assist different communities in Cambodia, began as a health project. Our divine interest in how urbanization affects human health inspired us to spread awareness and create an impact on our community. Our mission is to fundraise in multiple different ways on different platforms in order to achieve our goal to purchase necessities for young Cambodians in poverty. We will also support CCF to distribute these necessities to provinces in Cambodia with children in need. For more information about our cause please go check out @ycp.project on Instagram. THE INVASION OF FAST FOOD (Claire and Borynet)

PCPS: Consumers of fast food living in Phnom Penh need to be aware of the effects of fast food on their health and society.

What is fast food? Fast food, defined by the dictionary, is easily prepared processed food served in snack bars and restaurants as a quick meal or to be taken away. This includes your favorites: burgers, pizza, tacos, ice cream, bubble tea, hotdogs, and much more. Although these may seem pretty delicious, they are detrimental to your health whether you know it or not. Because citizens and victims do not know the danger they are in, the solution the Fast Food Invasion Group has brought up is to bring awareness to this situation. In addition, they want to, although it may be slow and seemingly ineffective, bring short but detailed education for the community that they are able to reach. By creating posters, stickers, and a website, they want to spread awareness about this situation that many are blind to. This is only the beginning of fighting the enemy, that is fast food. By spreading awareness, others are able to see this problem and come together to solve this problem. We do not intend to spread these ideas through social media.

OVERPOPULATION GROUP (Yik Xuan Lee, Conan Uk, Vichathon Bunnarith, Anna Ny Ngoun)

PCPS: We, as a community, need to find a way to control overpopulation in an urbanized area for those not well-off.

Our project is about overpopulation in urbanization. Society has made urbanization for our convenience. The population and technology improved over the years. But there are many problems to living in an area with overpopulation. Some of these problems are not being able to have enough land, food, and air in the future. Having too many products made by factories because we don't have enough can lead to air pollution and other problems. My group is focusing on spreading awareness about how you can protect the Earth. Such as throwing trash properly, not wasting food, and living with someone. Throwing away trash properly can save animals from eating unhealthy food. We can save animals by not wasting any food. Living with someone can save lands. Our idea is to spread awareness about overpopulation through social media, ads, and posters. By doing this, we can protect the environment.
