BAD AUDITIONS BY BAD ACTORS
On December 5th and 6th, The Logos Theater Company had its drama production.
Bad Auditions by Bad Actors: A Short Comedy is a play originally written by Ian McWethy. In the play, a casting director (played by Miriam Gamble) is given the task to cast the lead roles of the iconic play Romeo and Juliet. In the beginning, she is confident that she can find a Romeo and a Juliet by the end of the week. Her confidence starts to dwindle when she watches the auditions of people. Among some of the auditions are ones done by extreme method actors, and a woman who just doesn't know what to do with her hands. In between the auditions, the audience can see the hilarious interactions between the casting director, Roger (the assistant played by Dillon Hong), and Kimmy (the intern played by Joy Choi).
It was clear that the drama class and the director put deep thought into the composition of the play. They even created their own characters and scenes to add to the play. The transitions between the auditions were smooth and also had its own comedic events, from Kimmy's attempts to woo Roger to Roger texting his girlfriend non-stop. These smooth transitions allowed the play to be more cohesive.
The performers were outstanding, with perfect comedic timing and each actor showing their acting talents. Every actor and actress seemed completely immersed in their characters, even after switching roles throughout the play. If there were any mistakes in the play, their confidence made it seem as if nothing was wrong. These show the hard work and effort each and every actor put into the play.
The setting was simple yet clear and understandable; it was a simple room for an audition of some sort. It's simplicity allowed the performers to shine brighter, and the way the tables and chairs were laid out allowed the performers to convey their characters to the audience.
All in all, the play was extremely well performed and was very entertaining. It also fulfilled its title of a Short Comedy, as the play was about 50 minutes. Well done to the Logos drama class and Mrs. Jacob for putting together this awesome play!
