Club Series: Environment Club (Ecologos) for Sustainability and Progress
At Logos International School (LIS), a reliable group of students are taking action to combat the major issue of waste! The Environment club's main goal is working towards sustainability. The club was formed by Jasleen Khou, the founder and president of the club with Kasivitu Chhea, the vice-president and treasurer of the club. The Environment Club dedicates itself to an innovative mission! They are leading a group to change how LIS handles waste to reduce the amount of waste produced by the student body. Furthermore, as a project-based club, expect many projects to come your way! While interviewing the founder and president herself, Jasleen talked about the vision and key initiatives she has for the club.
Mission & Vision:
The Environment Club aims to inspire students to embrace sustainability in their daily lives. The club's mission is to educate students on issues related to climate change, conservation, and waste reduction. One of the Environment Club's standout initiatives is its commitment to reducing waste. The club is planning on doing hands-on projects and launched campaigns focused on recycling, composting, and minimizing single-use plastics. Some upcoming projects include reusing plastic, paper, and cardboard that are typically thrown away by building recycled art structures, elementary art classes, and other purposes! The first mission that the club is initiating is in September and October, so keep an eye out for this! They will be building new recycling bins for the school for students to use to discard their plastic packaging. Fundraising for these plans will start up as soon as this month. As LIS is one of the only international schools that aren't plastic-free, this project will be highly beneficial to the school staff and students alike. The club aims to create concrete change in the school one project at a time!
Unlike other clubs, the Environment Club isn't limited to the school campus only. They have plans to have projects outside of the city like beach clean-ups so the club's impact isn't limited to the school campus only. Not only do they have monthly and impactful projects, but they're different from other clubs where they have a website to post updates and results online. There will be photography collections on how overconsumption hurts Cambodia, effects of fast fashion, and research articles on environmental issues in the nation created by the members, which are all included on the website!
"Environment Club is for those who want to have fun with friends while doing meaningful work that improves the world around us."
– Jasleen Khou (founder)
