Coping with failure as a student
We all experience a time when everything seems to go wrong—when we can't reach a particular goal and find it extremely hard to cope. From a third-person point of view, it seems as though some people can move on from failures and obstacles without a second thought. In reality, those people never just pick themselves up and continue as if nothing ever happened. They turn these negative experiences into something that would benefit them—something that would help them learn and pinpoint where exactly they went wrong. So here are some tips on how to deal with failures:
1. Understanding the situation.
Failures are painful. The moment failure hits, there are tons of emotions a person could feel. And those emotions can influence you to act on your intrusive thoughts. However, don't dwell on it or let it take you down; sit with yourself and reflect. Give yourself time to soak up the experience, and analyze where you went wrong. Ask yourself, "the last time something went wrong for me, didn't I get over it soon enough?" The answer is most likely yes; as time goes by, the pain doesn't hit as hard as it did then.
2. Starting Over
This one sounds scary, but rest assured; unlike last time, you're starting over with experiences. You know what to do, where to start, and what mistake to not repeat. This time make sure you come prepared. Do not let any experiences of failure go in vain. Learn from it and use it to your advantage. From your knowledge of that failure, what was your takeaway from it? Failures are obstacles and life lessons that we build up over time; we learn from them to prevent them from happening again in the future. Understanding where you went wrong and taking measures to prevent it from happening again is a relatively healthy way to cope with failure.
3. Passion
Why are you doing this? Is this what you want to do? No matter how challenging a goal might seem, passion is a major force that inspires people to pursue it. Passion is required to push you past the toughest situations and overcome the biggest obstacles. So, if you ever find yourself in the midst of the path feeling lost and confused, please take yourself back to the beginning. Why did you start this journey in the first place? Let yourself be reminded of the reasons you're doing this instead of something else.
