Finally! A Hollywood Film Asians Can Relate To!
CRAZY RICH ASIANS - Film Reviews from the Logos Community
Constance Wu plays Rachel Chu, the film's Chinese American protagonist.
Crazy rich Asians has been one of the year's most anticipated film for both Asians and non-asians alike. Crazy Rich Asians is the first novel of a trilogy written by Kevin Kwan; no words can describe how much these novels mean to me and how much joy they've brought into my life. The movie of the first novel was released 5 years after the book was published, but still contains the same essence. The wealth, the fashion, the Asian traditions, along with the comedy, drama, and satire has been transferred completely from book to screen. Although the movie itself has missed a couple important scenes the book provided, they made it up by including beautiful and tearful scenes that the book never saw. Respectively, both the book and the movie scored a solid 11/10 for the laughter, the tears, the suspense, and all the crazy rich wealth and traditions. It is true that Asians are setting up a new stage in Hollywood, and this is the beginning. Stay tuned for China Rich Girlfriend, a sequel. ;)

Spoiler alert: it's a really fun romance.
Although it was a very typical romance story, it was still a very enjoyable movie. I loved the fact that the whole cast were Asian. It was very refreshing to see Asian representation in Hollywood. The movie also did a good job in incorporating a lot of the book into the movie despite having to cut out quite a few details from the book due to the time constraints. The cinematography and the OST were extremely mesmerizing especially during the wedding scene. The movie was definitely worth the wait and has become one of my favorites of all time.

Much of the film is set in the lush luxury of Singapore's elite and features a dizzying array of opulence.
Crazy Rich Asians is a movie I have never discovered before. It was nice to see an American movie dedicated to just Asians. After watching this movie, I felt as if many people in the world could relate to the plot of this movie, which can also mean that people can learn a lesson after watching this movie. There were also many parts that were very touching to heart that made my friends and I cry. This is a movie I do recommend, and it is definitely a movie I would watch again. (Henry Golding was not that hot :))

Henry Golding: yay or nay?
While the movie is eccentric and blows the values out of proportion, it still gives an accurate display of the Asian culture and the mindset of a wealthy Asian family. The movie truly has it all from a cute romance, to a detestable villain, to many hilarious characters, you never feel bored while watching it. It also puts your own life in perspective when you see how an extremely wealthy person can waste their money on pointless things.

Imagine the Asian Bachelor, but with obscenely rich and catty girls.
Crazy Rich Asians. Wow. Honestly it was one of the cutest movies I've watched thus far. It has an all asian cast which is extremely rare for a Hollywood film. I think I fell in love with the characters as they really "get you in your feelings". I think my top favourite scenes were when Peik Lin gives Rachel a pep talk about being confident, the wedding scene, and the mahjong scene. All three scenes give you different emotions: you'll cry, laugh, and just feel all sorts of different things. Ugh the movie in general starts a good conversation, but I wouldn't want to spoil it for those who haven't watch. Needless to say, it is a must watch! Asian pride!!

Crazy Rich Asians was a whole whirlwind of emotions for me as a romantic-comedy fanatic and an Asian-American myself. Seeing the wonderful completely Asian cast on screen empowered me and reminded me of the importance of accurate representation in media. Asians in media tend to be portrayed as the nerdy friend or the kungfu master. It was incredibly refreshing seeing Asians breaking the stereotype; the movie depicted Asians being funny, sassy, and even sexy. Speaking of which, the cast of the movie was incredibly attractive and well-casted. Henry Golding was the perfect Nick Young. His incredibly attractive accent and diction suit the role as the Singaporean prince Harry extremely well. Gemma Chan, Constance Wu, and Michelle Yeoh were all beautiful in their own sort of way. Seeing those three and their stories in comparison shows the importance of family and the sacrifices made for them. Not to mention, Awkwafina, though, who was a beautiful, hilarious mess. She most definitely left the audience laughing with her over-the-top heels and eccentric attitude.
I'm trying not to add too many spoilers but the wedding scene was incredibly beautiful. I thoroughly felt like no expense was spared on the making of the movie. They wonderfully showed the regality and also the eccentricity of Singapore's richest. Despite most movies focusing on the wonders of immense wealth, Crazy Rich Asians shows the complications of such wealth. This movie hits all your rom-com expectations with humor, drama, heartache, and squeal-worthy romantic moments. If you're a fan of long shots of wonderfully ripped Asian men's torsos, in the mood for a good cry or laugh, or enjoy seeing proper representation, this is the movie for you.
