Friday Night Live: Talent Show

03/31/2022

Last Friday night, March 25th, we welcomed a room full of guests to witness and appreciate performances done by our gifted students; both elementary and secondary students took the stage and made it their own. From rich piano music to powerful dance choreographies to mellow singing voices, our talent show was a definite success! After each and every performance, the auditorium resonated with the sound of awestruck applause.

Although we weren't able to get the specific details of the elementary portion, the elementary's heartfelt performances sure did leave the audience in awe as they exited the auditorium gleaming with joy. Who knew our elementary students were so talented? The elementary show consisted of many performances ranging from piano pieces, song ensembles, poem recitation, violin performances, all the way to dance performances. Not only that, our wonderful 7th-grade emcees, Serena and Panha, did a wonderful job entertaining the audience through their funny remarks and transition between the many performances.

The secondary fraction of the show started with the intriguing "Mango Walk", a Tom Orff Ensemble, carried out by the 7th graders. Following this, the crowd roared with admiration when two female students, Joy and Heewoo, moved their bodies to the electrifying style of hip-hop music. Melodious was the third act, a piano piece, carried out by one of the youngest performers of the secondary show. After this, the audience was unexpectedly transported to the city of Los Angeles, California where they swayed to the sweet voices of Andy and Liana covering "City of Stars" by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. An intermission where teachers played "Simon Says" interrupted the show and ended with hands clapping; this transitioned smoothly to the 6th graders performing "Handclap" by Fitz and the Tantrums on bucket drums. Re-entering the stage, Joy, Heewoo, and Shareen introduced a Korean traditional dance, "Fate" by Lee Sun Hee. Rayana, another 6th grader, played a rearrangement of "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder on the electric guitar. Shortly after, Hyowon, another 6th grader, presented the audience with a piano piece, "The Mill." The show truly ended with a bang when the seniors, dressed in colorful, fun shirts, took the stage and danced to a Kpop medley. Laughs, applause, and roars came from the audience, leaving wide grins on the faces of the class of 2022.

Talent show was a great opportunity for many of our students to step out of their comfort bubbles and show the talent they've been hiding. After two whole years of COVID interfering, this year's talent show was truly an event that everyone looked forward to. As an attendee of the show, the show still resounds in my mind ever since that night; it was truly a night to remember.

It would be an understatement to describe the talent show as a success; our student performers totally won over the hearts of the audience with all their hard work. Of course, we should not overlook the student council members along with the tech team and volunteers who worked hard to make the entire show happen. Infinite rounds of applause for them! Thank you everyone for attending the Friday Night Live show and supporting our students :)
