Girls Soccer: 2023

05/07/2023

This year's soccer season was a success as the girls ended the year by winning a silver medal at the ASAC tournament and a bronze medal at the ISSAPP tournament. Read their thoughts as the season comes to a close!

"The soccer season was intense, fun, and definitely a major highlight of the year. We grew together as a team, leading to amazing results in the tournament!"

Anneliese Thomas, 12th Grade.

The soccer season started phenomenally with a home game against East-West International School where we won 3-0. However, the highlight of this soccer season, according to most players, must be ASAC and ISSAPP.

On April 20th, the soccer team boards a plane to Thailand for ASAC, and here's what the players have to say about ASAC!

"Even if I didn't play on the second day of ASAC because of my torn ligament, it was a very tough tournament, but also special as we came in second place by playing with our best effort."

Anna Ny, 11th Grade.

Through sweat and tears, the girls brought a silver medal home from ASAC. But this tournament wasn't only special because of the silver medal, but also because of the memories and time, the players get to spend together.

"It was one of the best parts of ASAC because we were building relationships outside of just practices and games."

Jaylin Barringer, 12th Grade.

Another memorable event was ISSAPP, the final tournament where the girls brought the bronze medal home. It was both mentally, and physically exhausting as the players gave their best in each game. However, the most exciting game was the one against East-West. Toward the end of the game, the score remains 0-0, which results in penalty kicks. The penalty kicks were nerve-wracking as both teams kept catching up with one another. Finally, it came down to the score of 3-3, and with one last shot, the ball went in, and we won the game!

"When we won the penalty shootout, I think we were all in tears because we couldn't believe our practice had paid off and we were so proud of our teammates!"

Jaylin Barringer, 12th Grade.

And what's a better way to wrap up this season than with what our captain has to say?

"The girls played long and hard all season and created a long and lasting bond between them. During the ISSAPP tournament, right before the last game the girls played, we all embraced each other and thought about all the great times. After we won our last game we all cried and hugged one another knowing it was our last game together."

Miriam McCullough, 12th Grade.
