ISPPMUN'23: PARTNERSHIPS, PEACE, AND PROGRESS

10/26/2023

Model United Nations, a club dedicated to modelling real-life diplomatic affairs, is one of Logos's most long-standing clubs, with this year's leaders being Jan, Byeongguk, and Paul. Every Friday, room 209 is always filled to the brim with passionate diplomatic students.

Last Friday, October 20th, 18 of our students attended ISPP's 12th annual Model United Nations conference. The theme of this year's conference was "Partnerships, Progress, Peace," which aimed to unite us all through not only diplomacy but sincerity as well. Over the course of three days, Logos students were either separated into committees representing different countries or led by chairs in each committee.

Unlike previous conferences, this year the MUN club brought a majority of newly added members to their first conference. It was a nerve-wracking experience for many of them in a formal setting. On the bus ride there, many delegates were worried about how to write speeches and formulate POI's. However, their efforts were not in vain as they worked hard to represent their delegations and proved their knowledge through resolution writing.

On the other hand, our more experienced delegates were dedicated to professionally debating about the topics at hand, either for or against. They were ready to prove their worth all three days and did not hesitate to help the new members as well. They executed kindness and courage; in other words, they were the role models of MUN that people could count on.

ISPPMUN was a great opportunity for all delegates to step out of their comfort zones and hone up their social, deliberative, and critical thinking skills. Where some committees focused on economics, environments, or human rights, it's safe to say that all delegates came forth with at least two speeches exemplifying judicious comprehension of the resolution.

The conference came to an end on Sunday, where a plenary session and ending ceremony were conducted. The plenary was an overwhelming experience, where all students from 15 schools attended to debate on two passed resolutions. This year's two were the rehabilitation of criminals and human rights for the displaced and refugees. The end of Sunday came to an end with the secretary general, deputy secretary general, and MUN director making their closing remarks. As Director Brown concluded, "instead of building walls, you build bridges," thus the 12th annual ISPP conference came to an end with new friendships built and new profound knowledge.

Congratulations and thank you to ISPP's organising team for hosting a massive conference that brought many people around Asia together. Thank you to all the directors who took time out of their schedules to support students in diplomatic affairs. And lastly, thank you to all of the delegates who represented Logos over the exhilarating weekend.
