#LogosLions?
"The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions."
- Proverbs 28:1
Logos International School may be experiencing some change in the near future. As of last month, the secondary students were asked if they would be interested in changing our current mascot the 'Logos Lightning' to the 'Logos Lions'. Half of the school have said that they would be interested decision will be made in the near future.
Although some may think of a lion as very cliche and overdone, I believe that lions can become a symbol of our school's Christian faith. A story in Exodus explains my reasoning:
The Israelites were battling their neighbors. Moses told them that he would stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in his hands during the battle. The battle conspired and the Israelites were winning as long as Moses kept his hands in the air. When Moses became weary and lowered his hands, their enemies would start winning. He propped his hands upon stones until the battle was won. Moses decreed for that battle to be written down and remembered. He built an altar and named it 'the Lord is my banner'.
Banners were often carried into battle, representing what you believed in and what you were fighting for. I believe that having the lion as our sports mascot would strongly represent our Christian beliefs and allows us to fight for what we believe in: Jesus.
Some people may ask why I chose lions, of all symbols. The main reason is that it is a symbol of Jesus Christ and his people. The Lion of Judah is the symbol of the Israelite tribe of Judah, God's chosen people. As a school full of Christians, also God's chosen people, it would make sense for the lion to be our mascot.
Revelations 5:5 tells us about the lion also being a symbol of Jesus: "And one of the elders said to me, "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals".
