Pulling off All-Nighters
So it's one of those nights again where you have an assignment due the next day, but guess what? You forgot about it. So what are you gonna do? Well, pull an all-nighter of course! Now, all-nighters are quite hard to pull off, especially if you have never pulled one before or have little to zero experience. Luckily for you, I will give you some of my personal tips and tricks that will hopefully allow you to successfully pull off an all-nighter. Disclaimer: I am in no way trying to encourage or indulge staying up all night. This is purely for amusement and fun. With that being said, let's get started.
1. Make a checklist.
The very first thing you want to do is write down all the homework, assignments, and or other work that you need to do, always. This way you can keep track of what you need to get done and what is done. It also helps with prioritizing, because then you can see clearly what needs to get done first and what can wait till last. Sure it might sound stupid, but it will help, so do it. This should always be your first step, and from there the road will be much smoother. To go along with this, setting goals for yourself is always good. You do have all night, but time can fly by fast before you even know it, so don't be too relaxed.
2. Take breaks.
Remember how I said that setting goals for yourself would be good? Well here is why - because you will be able to take breaks. Trust me, you will most definitely want to take breaks because working on homework and assignments can be long and hard. So whenever you have reached a goal, take a break. Watch a video or two, scroll through social media, or even take a nap if needed. However, your break should never be more than 15 minutes. Any more than that and you might never get anything done. If you don't trust yourself, I would recommend setting a timer every time. That way you will know exactly when you need to start working again. It can even help with getting your goals accomplished. Set a timer and whatever goal you made try to finish it within that period of time. Not only will this help keep you on track, but it will also help your work to get done faster. So remember, yes, you don't have all the time in the world, but that doesn't mean you should overwork yourself. Work hard and take breaks, you deserve it.
3. Drink coffee.
This is probably the most obvious tip, 'cause well, coffee does keep you awake. Now, if you aren't able to make coffee any other beverage will suffice. It doesn't have to be coffee, however, coffee is the best option. I find that by having some type of beverage to drink, yes, even water, I am able to stay awake and be alert. Coffee, obviously, is the best option because it has caffeine and helps you to stay awake. Because you are pulling an all-nighter you will want to make it more than once, because it does wear off.
And lastly...
4. Give up.
I know, I know, the whole point is to get your assignment done, so what do you mean give up?! Well, let me explain. Giving up does not always happen, because for some of us staying up all night is easy, however, for those who struggle to keep their eyes open, giving up is an option. Really, you have two options here, give up, or finish. The choice is yours, but trust me, it is always good to have at least a couple hours of sleep then none at all. So give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far and for working so hard! Now, just give up.
So there you go, 4 steps to successfully pulling off an all-nighter. Please remember, pulling off all-nighters are not good for you, however, there are definitely times when you just gotta do whatcha gotta do. If you can get away with not pulling off an all-nighter that would be awesome, but if not, well, go for it. With that being said, the reality is no one can 'successfully' pull off an all-nighter. In the end, you will probably find yourself drifting off to sleep or even wake up the next morning realizing that you fell asleep. Just remember, you will be okay.
Hang in there guys, you got this! Good luck, and have a terrific week!!
