The MBTI 16-personality test: Finding Yourself

09/08/2021

Have you ever stopped to wonder what type of person you are to others? Becoming curious about your personality is a natural step in getting to know your position in society, where you are required to build new relationships with different people and work with them. Perhaps you've seen a person and thought, "that person has a great personality." While in another situation, you might've seen someone and thought negatively of them. However, time and time again, it all leads to one question:

'Then what about my personality?'

Here, we have a way to solve this problem: the MBTI 16-personality test!

The Four Psychological Scales

The MBTI is a combination of four letters — eight in total — with different meanings for each. The divergent combination of the letters distinguishes the personalities, and even a single different letter in the MBTI may show a clear distinction between the two. However, not everyone fits into the scale of the eight psychological scales. Extroverts, Introverts, Sensors, Intuitives, Thinkers, Feelers, Judgers, and Perceivers. Although most people have no problem getting a fairly accurate result of their personalities through the MBTI test, some people can't relate to their results at all. This is because the test we take online is usually just for fun, not anything serious. To get an even detailed result, you would need to pay money for it.

How is it helpful?

Knowing your personality type provides entertainment and allows you to get to know yourself more, along with your external relationships. For instance, let's take the compatibility chart. Many times, these turn out to be extremely accurate. You can compare your results with a friend, lover, or family member to observe how compatible you both are. While entertainment is the obvious benefit you get out of it, MBTI also gives an insight into how you can improve those relationships. Ultimately, MBTI is a tool for you to become cognizant of your strengths and weaknesses; you get to learn ways to use them in the most effective ways possible. So, what is there to lose?

Other Precautions

Despite the criticism the MBTI test receives for being oversimplified, it is undeniable that the test can provide you with a new way to view others. It's a tool that can help you understand things you don't notice on a day-to-day basis and improve your relationship with people in a positive way. For example, if you have an introverted friend who has a not-so-great social life, learning about the MBTI helps you understand their personality.
