The New Norm of Freshman Year
Being a freshman is not always as exciting as you might expectーespecially if you were allocated a year where all the activities you were twiddling your thumbs for were canceled. Unquestionably, freshman year was not the best for many students, while it was the best year for the apprehensive and shy. These are some of the things the freshmen this year had to say!
1. Work, work, and more work!
Entering high school is almost like bumping square into the face with a wallーthe wall of reality. Though some may be just as good about this, realizing that you are getting closer to adulthood can be, sometimes, a little scary. To many of us, this is caused by the dread of attending college. Becoming a high school student meant that you needed to learn how to use your time effectively in order to finish all the workload given to you.
Personally, when I was a middle schooler, I doubted that there would be much difference between the high school and the middle school workload. This was a big misunderstanding. There is a huge gap between these two workloads, and it was worse with the COVID-19 pandemic this year. The majority of the class suffered from having to handle the extra workload online, and so did the teachers. Hopefully, next year, we can switch back to offline learning!
3. Sports
When talking about the thrill when entering high school, we can never forget about sports and the exciting matches. Although this is not new to all the freshmen this year, there still is a difference between middle and high school sports. Like serventure and high school retreats, sports is another activity within the school that keeps the students excited for the year. After all, adding a slice of entertainment into your high school life is important for your concentration on the desk as well!
High school sports at LOGOS include soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Unfortunately, this year, all of these were canceled, resulting in numbers of disappointed students and teachers. Hopefully next year, all of these amusing activities will be open to us again!
One of the key highlights of becoming a high school student is going to serventure camps, HS retreats, and other entertaining trips. Not only is this an opportunity for high school students to break free from the stress and responsibilities of school, but it is also a time for them to bond with their friends and build on their friendships with others. With this gone for the current freshmen year, naturally, many people were disappointed. Although the coronavirus caused the cancellation of many high school events this year, many students have gained new know-hows in spending their time effectively at home.
With online school and COVID-19, the school has become a new experience that I've never been through. It's not exactly new and refreshing, but it's an obstacle that can really develop my skills in many things. Learning how to make use of all my time even without all the exciting events like Serventure and HS Retreat. Staying at home is a good opportunity for me to rest a bit more than usual. At the same time, meeting old friends and making new ones have been extremely difficult.
✰ Interview ✰
Q: How is being a freshman different from being a middle schooler?
A: Being a freshman/high schooler is much different from being a middle schooler. Firstly, there is a lot more work and responsibilities like projects, tests, quizzes, and exams. Secondly, I get less personal time and rest without worrying about school, and there are more things I have to focus on nowadays. However, all these difficulties make life more interesting and fun in a new way.

A: Entering high school and becoming a freshman follows with a lot of responsibilities, especially my grades. Compared to how it was in middle school, I no longer have the freedom to play, and I have to spend more time studying. However, something that has changed as I've entered high school was my control over my grades. As I spent more time studying, my control over my grades increased.
