We all know the story of "A Christmas Carol", of old Ebenezer Scrooge and his miraculous transformation from a stingy geezer to a charitable philanthropist after an encounter with the spirit of his dead business partner Jacob Marley and the three ghosts of Christmas. In the 1984 film of this story, which starred the famous actor George C. Scott, viewers are treated with a brilliant performance from the old man, who manages to bring the character of Charles Dickens' iconic miser to life. Through Scrooge's late night adventures with three ghosts, "A Christmas Carol" shows the audience how greed destroys a man's soul, the epitome of which was a snarky comment by the Ghost of Christmas Present in regards to Scrooge's previous disregard for the life of the poor and needy, noting that "it may well be that in the sight of Heaven you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man's child". Quite a chilly message for the Scrooges in our world, especially in light of recent events. So, keeping the movie's lessons in mind, let's make this Christmas one of giving. And just as Scrooge was ultimately convinced by the merits of merrymaking and selfless charity, let us too go forth and make this Christmas merry and giving. To quote the words of the loveable Tiny Tim, "God bless us, every one!"

1. The Grinch

The children's picture book How The Grinch Stole Christmas, created by Dr. Seuss in the 1950s, is a heartfelt and classic Christmas story that grips the hearts of its readers. Even more popular are the movie renditions of the book, which capture the essence of Dr. Seuss's original work while bringing in different elements of the story, creating an excellent viewing experience. Though the first movie rendition of the story is quite short compared to the other films with a 26-minute run-time, it is considered a Christmas classic and is very well-known.This classic version is well-loved because it includes animation identical to Seuss's artwork in the picture book while introducing new catchy songs like "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch." To this day, many still watch it during the holiday season as an homage to the original story. The second film, which is the only live-action version, has the same basic storyline with added background characters and subplots. A notable addition is the emphasis on Cindy-Lou Who, a young girl from Whoville who helps the Grinch see the true meaning of Christmas. Jim Carrey, who plays the Grinch, adds his sense of humor to the film, which makes it more popular among older audiences. Though it still involves the Grinch's plan to ruin Christmas and his change of heart in the end, this rendition helps viewers understand the Grinch and sympathize with his struggles. The third and final film, which was created by Illumination, is another animated version of the original story. Like the previous versions, it follows the same storyline as the original book. However, like the second movie, it adds to the story by introducing new characters and subplots.
